Neighborhood Crime Watch
Neighborhood crime watch groups are composed of residents who are focused on keeping their neighborhoods safe and crime-free. Working with local law enforcement, concerned residents learn strategies for preventing crime such as informal “patrolling” of their blocks or neighborhoods.
Crime watch volunteers promote safe neighborhoods with street signs that help to deter would-be criminals. Studies have shown that such signs are effective. Some meet fairly regularly to discuss neighbors’ concerns and any news of suspicious activity. Many have Facebook pages to share information or post crime warnings.
IMPORTANT: If you observe illegal drug dealing or suspicious activity in your neighborhood, do not try to intervene yourself in illicit drug activities. Leave it to the police!
